About Suzanne Cantrell:
An avid and life-long horsewoman, Suzanne began riding at the age of five. She spent 2 years living and working in Italy where she managed an equitourism and training facility as well as guiding trail rides in the Italian Alps. She has competed in various equestrian disciplines throughout her life and worked under several talented riding coaches. In 1999 after a car accident left her with serious and long-term injuries, she was unable to ride for an extended period of time. Told that she could eventually return to “light riding”, she received the devastating news that equestrian competition & jumping pursuits would no longer be a part of her life.
During her long healing process, Suzanne learned much about the body and its connection with the mind as she reached out to alternative therapies, bodywork, and integrative thinking in order to reclaim her mobility. Horses not only motivated her during this journey, but supported and guided her during the tangled process of sorting through her emotions, dealing with extreme chronic pain, adapting to different forms of lifestyle management, and eventually returning to riding and working with horses in new ways.
Suzanne holds a BA in Italian and brings 10 years of business administration experience with her from the corporate world. She also completed a year long approved Equine Facilitated Experiential Learning program co-developed by Linda Kohanov, author of The Tao of Equus and Riding Between the Worlds, and Kathleen Barry Ingram. Her ongoing studies include equine bodywork, dressage and eventing.
